An order designed and handmade for the customer based on a survey and sketched concepts.
This piece is made from kangaroo leather with brass and steel hardware, magnetic closures and zips to open the sides, and a magnetic front flap closure. Hardware and openings are as concealed as possible within leather details to create a minimal, textured form. Scarring and natural markings are visible throughout the full-grain vegetable tanned kangaroo hide, and the asymmetrical front flap is embossed with an all-over pattern drawing further interest to the surface softness and detail. The custom crossbody strap is buckled with a medieval replica brass casting, and the sprung rings which connect it are removable from both the strap and the bag.
The piece has been designed to look and carry like a messenger bag, but be used like a folio when required. It includes 5 internal pockets to carry 2 mobile phones, with 2 pockets for keys and other miscellaneous items, plus a sleeve made to fit a tablet with a case. An external back pocket like main compartment and tablet sleeve will hold A4 sheets or envelopes flat.
The pattern is a combination of laser cut design and hand detailing to get the fit and hardware placements just right. The edges and interior suede have all been hand waxed and burnished, with saddle-stitching completed by hand using waxed cord. The design is the result of months of trialling and revising various details to ensure the bag can open entirely flat, and have enough useful pockets, while including a strap and a seamless front profile.
